Camp ended yesterday and I’m more sad about it than I thought I would be. I love my teaching job, but during the year I’m “Ms. Madden.” A position that comes with a ton of responsibility, high expectations, long hours, planning, and exhaustion. This summer I got to be “Jenny.”
I got to take play games with 5 year olds in the Children’s Museum.
I got to ride a roller coaster with 6 year olds at Victorian Gardens.
I got to eat popsicles with 7 year olds.
I got to do a sponge relay at field day with the older kids.
I got to deck myself out in temporary tattoos in honor of the Olympics.
I got to lead a dance party to Justin Beiber and Carly Rae Jepsen with 30 kids.
I got to play hangman during downtime in the office with coworkers.
Don’t get me wrong, there was a lot of responsibility and work that went into this summer, too. But it was a totally different feeling. It was FUN. It was what summers should be, and I love that this role gave me the excuse to remember that.
