To be completely honest, I was nervous when I told my parents about my plan to quit my job and go back to school. They’ve always been completely supportive, but honestly, quitting a stable job in this economy to go back to school isn’t everyone’s first line of thinking.
When I did tell them, they were thrilled. “I knew you were going to be a teacher since you were 8 years old. I just thought you should figure it out yourself,” my mom said. Huh, well what about that. And now I just received this card that they made a donation to a children’s literacy program “in honor of my decision to become a teacher” - how sweet! Knowing that my parents not only support my choices, but are actually excited about them, is pretty damn awesome and I feel very lucky.
