We went to Philadelphia a couple of years ago, based off of a recommendation in Food and Wine magazine for hotel, restaurant, and museum exhibit (Palomar, Village Whiskey, Picasso) and were thrilled with everything. By the end of that first weekend, I was looking up real estate in Philly. While it has yet to pull me away from New York, it makes for a great and easy weekend away.
That first weekend, we also met a bartender at Village Whiskey, who has become a good friend. Between trips back there and his trips to NYC, we’ve always had a great time together. Over the years, he’s become a heavy hitter in the Philly restaurant world, and knowing someone who knows everyone at restaurants? Doesn’t suck, I’ll tell you that. It also means that when we visit, it is basically a culinary whirlwind from start to finish. An epicurean endurance test. My type of marathon.
In short: we went to Philly this weekend! We ate all the things! It was fantastic! … And now, I will not be hungry til Wednesday.
