Recipe #2 of 2012: Homemade Hummus
You guys. I have been converted. I have long loved hummus, trying different brands and flavors, not really being picky. And then last night I made my own. And I may just never buy hummus again.
I based my hummus off of this recipe. I mainly stuck to it, except I didn’t add olive oil or lemon juice and used about 2 1/2 T of tahini, as many of the commenters recommended. This is my favorite type of recipe: you pretty much memorize it after one making, made all in one device (my tiny food processor), and all done within 10 minutes. No joke. Plus you can made it to your preferences, whether you like smooth or chunky, flavored or not.
The other amazing thing about this is the opportunity to try out new ideas and be creative. The base is easy (garlic, chick peas and some of their liquid, tahini, salt and pepper), and from there, the options are endless. I separated mine to keep some “original” and then I added sriracha to what was left. It.was.AMAZING! Other ideas I want to try: sundried tomatoes and basil, roasted peppers, fresh herbs.
Make this. Tonight.
