Recipe #1 of 2012: Goop’s Turkey Meatballs
I had heard great things about this recipe, and have been wanting to make meatballs for awhile, so was really looking forward to this one. Unfortunately, it didn’t hit the mark for us, which could have been due to a couple things:
The recipe calls for fennel seeds, which we really don’t like. Even though I halved the amount in the recipe, it was still too much for me, and I think it was a prominent flavor in the meatballs.
I used lean turkey meat instead of dark, which the recipe recommends.
I didn’t have parsley, and a fair amount was asked for. I wouldn’t recommend leaving it out.
All in all, it wasn’t bad by any means, just not memorable. The sauce was actually really tasty, and I liked cooking the meatballs in the sauce, but the balls themselves were a bit boring and bland. I liked the addition of lemon zest to the meat, and think a little more seasoning (and cheese! what meatballs are made without some parm??) would have made these much better.
